Three Action-Packed Tournaments to Take Place in the RGV and Coastal Bend This Weekend

BISD Basketball Tournament

Once again, Tournament Fever is set to grip the Rio Grande Valley and the Coastal Bend as basketball season continues to steamroll towards the District Calendar. In a season that has already seen great tournaments so far, such as the Chick-Fil-A Mid Valley Classic, the McAllen Border Bash Tournament, and the San Perlita Classic. Two more tournaments are on this weekend’s slate, including the BISD Tournament, the Hidalgo Pirate Classic, and the CCCA Basketball tournament. Here’s a complete breakdown of what to expect in this week’s action

The First Tournament that we will be breaking down is the 2021 Brownsville ISD Tournament. Taking place December 2nd through the 4th. This is the largest tournament this weekend. Consisting of a total of 12 Pools; 4 Boys’ Pools and 8 Girls’ Pools. The Boys Pool play is Broken down as a Follows:

Pool A: Brownsville Hanna, Brownsville Jubilee, Port Isabel, Brownsville Porter.

Pool B: Brownsville Rivera, Edinburg Economedes, PSJA Southwest, Mission Veterans

Pool C: Brownsville Pace, San Benito, St. Joseph, IDEA North Mission

Pool D: Brownsville Veterans, Nikki Rowe, Brownsville Lopez, Mission

Some Big matchups to expect in Pool Play include:

St. Joseph vs Brownsville Pace

St. Joseph vs IDEA North Mission

Brownsville Pace vs IDEA North Mission

teams which are arguably three of the premier basketball programs in the Valley.

The Girls Bracket is broken down as follows. Three teams will play in each pool:

Pool A: Brownsville Hanna, Harlingen JV, Brownsville Jubilee

Pool B: Brownsville Lopez, Edinburg Vela, IDEA Donna

Pool C: Brownsville Pace, San Perlita, Santa Rosa

Pool D: Port Isabel, Progreso, PSJA

Pool E: Brownsville Porter, Rio Hondo, Harvest Christian Academy.

Pool F: Brownsville Rivera, Brownsville Vets JV, Nikki Rowe

Pool G: IDEA Riverview, Los Fresnos, Lyford

Pool H: St. Joseph, McAllen, IDEA Mission.

Rio Hondo vs Harvest Christian

St. Joseph vs McAllen.

CCCA Basketball Tournament

On our next breakdown, we take a trip to the Coastal Bend as we look at the CCCA Basketball Tournament. Similar to the Hidalgo Pirate Classic, this Boy’s tournament will also consist of 24 teams competing in eight pools of three. A blend of five regions, This Tournament has teams from the San Antonio area, the Austin area, the Houston Area, the Coastal Bend, and the Rio Grande Valley.

The pools of the teams competing are as follows.

Pool A: Corpus Christi Moody, San Antonio Highlands, and Santa Maria

Pool B: Elgin, Corpus Christi Ray, McAllen Memorial

Pool C: Corpus Christi King, New Braunfels, Sharyland

Pool D: Corpus Christi Carroll, San Antonio Brackenridge, La Joya Palmview

Pool E: Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, Milby, Santa Rosa

Pool F: Corpus Christi Miller, Leander Rouse, Team TBD

Pool G: Gregory Portland, Boerne, Milton B. Lee Academy

Pool H: San Antonio Clark, Sharyland Pioneer, and La Joya.

Pirate Classic Basketball Tournament

On our next breakdown, we look at the 10th installment of the Hidalgo Pirate Classic. Also taking place December 2nd through the 4th, this Boys Basketball Tournament consists of 24 teams competing in eighty-three team pools. Four teams out of the 24 team tournament will be from out of the valley, including a team from Reynosa, Tamaulipas. 

The Pools are as follows:

Pool A: Hidalgo, Lyford, Houston Stafford

Pool B: Donna,Hidalgo II, PSJA

Pool C: PSJA North, Donna North, Eagle Pass

Pool D: Valley View, IDEA Frontier, La Grulla

Pool E: Edinburg, Houston Dickinson, PSJA Memorial

Pool F: Rio Grande City, Weslaco East, Rio Hondo, 

Pool G: Los Fresnos, Edouch-Elsa, IDEA Weslaco

Pool H. Edinburg North, Potros de Reynosa, La Feria
