Edinburg Vela’s Molina surpasses 1,000 points in career in win over La Joya

In the Lady Sabercats 57-38 win over La Joya, Edinburg Vela’s Andrea Molina passed the 1,000-point milestone in her high school career scoring 17 points on the memorable night.

HIGHLIGHTS:

De Leon erupts for 35 in triumph over Mission High

Edinburg Economedes’s Ray De Leon did not kid around Friday night when the Jaguars hosted the Mission Eagles. De Leon proved he is one of the Rio Grande Valley’s top players once again, scoring 35 points and lead Economedes over the Eagles 66-50.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Veterans Memorial’s Guerra lights up for 27, Eagles fly over King

Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial’s Adan Guerra hit ten of his 27 points on the night in the fourth quarter, helping the Eagles pull away and beat the Corpus Christi King Mustangs 60-54.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Moody’s Cullum leads the way, Moody tops Carroll

Corpus Christi Moody’s Jakota Cullum was big as the Trojans pulled away in the fourth quarter in their win over Corpus Christi Carroll 62-50. Cullum had 19 points on the afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Rodriguez’s 20 helps PSJA slip by Economedes in overtime

The biggest separation in the second half was five as the Economedes Jaguars looked to find some room against a hot PSJA Bear squad. PSJA’s Juan Rodriguez pitched in 20 points in the overtime win over the Jaguars 50-49.

Martinez boosts Rio Hondo to wins over Port Isabel, La Feria

Rio Hondo’s Natalie Martinez left her mark on the Lady Bobcats’ win over the Port Isabel Lady Tarpons 72-38. Martinez had 16 points against the Lady Tarpons and also aided the Lady Bobcats in getting past the La Feria Lionettes, moving the Lady Bobcats to 5-0 in district play and keeping them atop the league standings.

Big shots fall for Port Isabel’s Gonzalez as Lady Tarpons end losing skid in win over Raymondville

Port Isabel’s Sabrina Gonzalez came to play Friday night.

After allowing a quick 4-0 spirt from the Raymondville Lady Bearkats, Gonzalez hit a deep three pointer to tie the game heading into the half. Gonzalez also hit a layup in the third quarter, kissing it nicely off the glass and the foul. She led the way as the Lady Tarpons pulled away from the Lady Bearkats 41-31, ending a two-game losing skid.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Port Isabel’s Pinkerton heats up early, pins Raymondville early in 80-63 victory

Port Isabel’s Cole Pinkerton noticed the pressure was relaxed a little more than usual on him. So, he decided to fire the cannon.

Pinkerton scored 23 points in the first half — including a string of three’s — to put the Tarpons up for good in a home win over the Raymondville Bearkats 80-63.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Lyford’s Perez leads charge for red-hot Lady Bulldogs over IDEA Edinburg

The Lyford Lady Bulldogs have ran the floor well all season long and continued to do so thanks in part to Marley Perez, who led the way in the Lady Bulldogs’ 90-22 win over IDEA Edinburg.

Martinez’s 26 secures 15th straight victory, Falcons remain undefeated in district

When you think of Los Fresnos basketball, there are a few names that come to mind. Gerry Martinez is one of them.

The sophomore erupted for 26 points as the Falcons secured themselves a well-earned road win over the Harlingen South Hawks 48-43.

Weslaco’s Galindo helps Panthers complete comeback in key district win over Harlingen

The Weslaco Panthers trailed the Harlingen Cardinals at the half in a big-time 32-6A battle, but thanks in part to Weslaco’s Juan Galindo and his 14 points, the Panthers were able to roar back and slip by Harlingen 56-53.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Edinburg Vela’s Tijerina displays grit, hustle in one-sider over Juarez-Lincoln

It’s easy to forget the little things, especially in a one-sided contest, but Edinburg Vela’s Gabby Tijerina hustled and played with grit — along with padding 10 points — to aid the Lady Sabercats over the La Joya Juarez-Linclon Lady Huskies 95-48.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Rowe’s Yebra scores team-high 12, leads Lady Warriors past Sharyland

The McAllen Rowe Lady Warriors benefitted from Yulissa Yebra’s team-high 12 points as Rowe ran past the Sharyland Lady Rattlers 51-24.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Lyford’s Torres leads charge over Vanguard

The Lyford Bulldogs are primed for chance atop the district standings, and Angel Torres planted another seed in the ground to get there, scoring 14 points and leading the Bulldogs over Edinburg Vanguard 95-15.

Marroquin gets things started, finished in Jubilee’s downing of IDEA Riverview

Brownsville Jubilee’s Jose Marroquin got things going from beyond the arc and the Titans followed suit as Jubilee routed the IDEA Riverview Rockets 62-17.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Miller’s Body, Adkism lead Bucs to 64-26 district win over Port Lavaca-Calhoun

From the football field to the basketball court, Corpus Christi Miller’s Andrew Body and Lonnie Adkism combined for 25 points in the state-ranked Buccaneer’s Wednesday night game over the Port Lavaca-Calboun Sandcrabs 64-26.

Fun fact: This past football season, the Sandcrabs won the shootout over Miller 77-76.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Edinburg duo combines for 32, top Mission Lady Eagles

Edinburg’s Annika Saenz and Daysha Tijerina combined for 32 points as the Lady Bobcats routed the Mission Lady Eagles 67-25.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Edinburg’s Guerra, Sepulveda score a dozen each to lift Bobcats over Mission

The Edinburg Bobcats continued to roll this week — with the help of Derek Guerra and Eddie Sepulveda each scoring 12 points — as the Bobcats snuck by 50-48 win over the Mission Eagles.

La Feria’s Gonzalez leads Lions to comeback win over Rio Hondo

Down 18-3 at the end of the first quarter, the La Feria Lions needed to find answers with the Rio Hondo Bobcats will in control.

In thanks to Lions guard Carlos Gonzalez, the Lions were to able to storm back and top the Bobcats 47-46 and get back over five hundred in district play.
